2023 Annular Eclipse
Southern Oregon experienced the 2023 annular eclipse with mixed results due to cloud cover obscuring the "Ring of Fire" in many areas.
An annular solar eclipse takes place when the moon is closer to its maximum distance from Earth in its orbit. Only a narrow corridor of the western and central U.S. experienced the ring when the moon blocked out 90% of the sun for a few minutes Saturday morning.
NASA tracked the eclipse in Medford from 8:05 a.m. to 10:40 a.m., reaching annularity at 9:18-9:19 a.m.
Rogue Valley AirWatch's Tim Crippin captured the moments of annularity from Central Point, Oregon, while Scott Swanson captured the departure of Air Tanker TNKR41 of Neptune Aviation Services Inc departure from Rogue Valley International Medford Airport during the eclipse.
